Through this program, participants master precision manufacturing, material casting, and advanced custom coloring techniques. They learn to mix and apply exact color specifications to match detailed artistic and historical standards. This technical skill is put directly to work on our core projects, ensuring flawless coloring for The Koa Warriors, the feral resisters, the Nene, and the grand layout of Haleakalā. This specialized expertise gives our team a unique, high-demand skill set, preparing individuals for sustainable, long-term careers in precision manufacturing and professional production.

Creative Arts & Sustainable Enterprise: The Resiliency Workshop

Beyond our field operations, Futures for Felons, Inc. bridges environmental restoration with high-end, tangible craftsmanship. Through our dedicated command center workshop, participants learn specialized, high-value trade skills in precision woodworking, chemical resin fabrication, and detailed diorama production.

Our woodshop operates on a unique, full-circle sustainability model:

Sustainable Harvesting: Our crews go out into native forests to clear invasive species like Strawberry Guava (waiawī) that choke out Maui’s critical watersheds.
Precision Milling & Prep: Instead of wasting the wood, participants haul these dense trunks back, using table saws, routers, and sanders to strip, slice, and stabilize the raw wood into natural coastal and mountain terrain templates.
Advanced Resin Fabrication: Participants master mold building, perfect leveling, chemical mixing, and liquid containment to pour deep-set resin layers over the wood, mimicking Hawaii’s ocean depths and volcanic flows.
Industrial Finishes: Individuals learn multi-stage sanding techniques up to microscopic grits, applying professional gallery topcoats to achieve institutional-grade, premium art pieces.
